What is ANT? Applying New Technologies (ANT2) project aims to build on the achievements of the 2006/2007 Access to New Technologies (ANT) Project. This will be achieved by providing leadership, support, training, coaching and mentoring to embed elearning practices through the increased use and knowledge of web 2.0 tools. The project objectives will support a variety of strategic imperatives that meet TAFE NSW 21st Century Project priorities, including the Workforce Development Guarantee objectives.
WSI Access to New Technologies 2008
Focus To build upon the achievements of the ANT 1 trials to implement a multimedia resource development and delivery model to support F2F delivery.An action learning team approach will be taken that will incorporate a coaching and mentoring program. The program will increase teachers’ familiarity with and use of a range of technologies to support flexible learning. The project will also run alongside and compliment an elearning facilitation capability development program currently being delivered to 10 WSI teachers.This program is mapped to the Facilitate eLearning elective from the Diploma in Training & Assessment (TAA50104).Participants from this program will be involved in workshops and mentoring programs to increase the use of technology to support flexible learning.
The program will increase teachers’ capability to design and implement a range of educational delivery models using appropriate educational technologies for mainstream classrooms.
Project Outcomes: ·Growth in the use of technology supported delivery in the Financial services business line – 10 teachers to implement delivery using one or some of the technologies for at least 1 unit during semester 2, 08. ·Growth in the use of MP3 player/record and audacity to produce audio resources for gap training for students – increase of 12 (depending on uptake of appropriate technology use) ·Growth in use of individual Connect rooms – increase by 25 across the institute (depending on uptake of appropriate technology use). ·Growth in use of captivate and presenter as application for multimedia resource creation and online quizzes. Increase in number of learning resources from 5 to approx 25 (depending on uptake of appropriate technology use) ·Growth in the creation of individual teaching and learning wikis using the newly developed Western Sydney Institute wikispaces site – increase in number of wiki created to support teaching and learning from 3 to approx 25 (at least 20 more) (depending on uptake of appropriate technology use) ·Interpretation of how teachers found using the technology, how it worked within their teaching environment, did the technology have an impact on their teaching etc
Benefits to industry; ·More highly skilled students for industry exiting TAFE and improved levels of productivity in industry because of student access to more advanced, up-to-date, flexible methods of learning
Benefits to students; ·More flexible methods of learning making it easier to access and use learning resources ·More innovative and interactive methods of learningresulting in higher levels of motivation
Benefits to TAFE; ·Teaching staff with higher levels of knowledge and skill in the area of elearning enabling WSI TAFE to remain competitive in today’s educational marketplace ·Capability of teachers to adopt & implement up-to-date, flexible and innovative methods for teaching and learning ·Improved retention and enrolment numbers through greater levels of student motivation & desire for learning
